55 A JOINT RESOLUTION
66 proposing a constitutional amendment relating to the right to own,
77 hold, and use any mutually agreed upon medium of exchange.
88 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Article I, Texas Constitution, is amended by
1010 adding Section 35 to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 35. The right of the people to own, hold, and use a
1212 mutually agreed upon medium of exchange, including cash, coin,
1313 bullion, digital currency, or scrip, when trading and contracting
1414 for goods and services shall not be infringed. No government shall
1515 prohibit or encumber the ownership or holding of any form or amount
1616 of money or other currency.
1717 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
1818 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 7, 2017.
1919 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
2020 proposition: "The constitutional amendment recognizing the right
2121 of the people to own, hold, and use a mutually agreed upon medium of
2222 exchange, including cash, coin, bullion, digital currency, or
2323 privately issued scrip."
