 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Jessica Rivera won the 64th annual South Texas
 Regional Spelling Bee held at the Congressman Solomon P. Ortiz
 International Center in Corpus Christi on February 25, 2017, to the
 delight of her family and friends; and
 WHEREAS, Triumphing over nearly 100 other students from area
 elementary and middle schools, Jessica made it to the finals, and
 after 14 rounds, she claimed first place by correctly spelling the
 word "mochi"; with her impressive victory, she earned a
 championship trophy as well as the opportunity to compete in the
 2017 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.; and
 WHEREAS, The daughter of Matilde and Olga Rivera, Jessica is
 an eighth grader at Cunningham Middle School, where she is the
 five-time champion of the campus spelling bee and participates in
 the robotics club, student council, the National Junior Honor
 Society, band, golf, and the Teen Trendsetters reading mentorship
 program; she has also secured a place on the honor roll for the
 third consecutive year, and in her spare time, she enjoys playing
 piano; and
 WHEREAS, Through her exceptional ability, hard work, and
 commitment to excellence, Jessica Rivera has brought great pride to
 her family, her school, and the South Texas community at large, and
 she is indeed deserving of recognition for this outstanding
 accomplishment; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Jessica Rivera on winning the 64th
 annual South Texas Regional Spelling Bee and extend to her sincere
 best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Jessica Rivera as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
