H.R. No. 1041
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Klein High School academic decathlon team
enjoyed great success in the 2016-2017 season; and
WHEREAS, The academic decathlon program provides high school
students with an opportunity to experience the challenges of
rigorous academic competition through participation in team
activities covering 10 content areas: art, math, music, economics,
essay, interview, language and literature, science, speech, and
social science; and
WHEREAS, After finishing first in their district during the
2016-2017 season, the Klein High School team went on to win first at
the Oliver Wendell Holmes Invitational event and first at the
regional contest, where it also took first place honors in the Super
Quiz category and where team member Logan Baker finished with the
individual high point award; the Bearkats then capped off an
outstanding year by finishing 14th at the state championship meet,
held February 24-26, during which they garnered eight individual
medals and third place in Super Quiz; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of head coach Cheryl Freeman
and assistant coach Michelle Halek, the Bearkats received vital
contributions throughout the season from each member of the team:
Chibu Ejiofor, Danielle Breitstein, Kim Nguyen, Esther Marin, Benny
DuPriest, Divya Nagarajan, Logan Baker, Leon Butler, and Vix Brown;
and
WHEREAS, Through their talent, hard work, and commitment to
excellence, the members of the 2016-2017 Klein High School academic
decathlon team have brought pride to their school and their
community, and they are indeed deserving of recognition for their
accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Klein High School academic
decathlon team on a successful 2016-2017 season and extend to all
those associated with the team sincere best wishes for the future;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
