45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Ulrich Intermediate School in Klein has been named
67 the winner of the 2017 Great Reading Games, an annual competition
78 sponsored by Learning Ally; and
89 WHEREAS, Learning Ally is a nonprofit organization that
910 provides educational materials for students with print
1011 disabilities, including dyslexia, blindness, and visual
1112 impairment, at approximately 10,000 schools; the Great Reading
1213 Games contest is designed to motivate these students to spend more
1314 time reading and to engage with texts above their grade level, and
1415 during this year's competition, participants completed more than
1516 five million pages total; and
1617 WHEREAS, Ulrich Intermediate beat out schools from across the
1718 country to capture first place in the 2017 Great Reading Games; all
1819 of the sixth, seventh, and eighth graders involved in the school's
1920 Learning Ally program took part in the challenge, earning a winning
2021 score of 1,580,614; and
2122 WHEREAS, With their fine performance in the Great Reading
2223 Games, these outstanding young Texans have brought credit to their
2324 school, and they may take justifiable pride in the considerable
2425 skill and perseverance they have demonstrated; now, therefore, be
2526 it
2627 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2728 Legislature hereby congratulate Ulrich Intermediate School on
2829 achieving first place in the 2017 Learning Ally Great Reading Games
2930 and extend to all those who took part in the competition sincere
3031 best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
3132 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3233 prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3334 House of Representatives.
