| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The 10th annual DFW Dragon Boat, Kite, and Lantern |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The gathering features dragon boat races, kite |

| 8 | 9 | | making and flying, lantern displays, traditional Asian food, dance |

| 9 | 10 | | performances, a parade, and many more attractions; the event is |

| 10 | 11 | | hosted by the Marco Polo World Foundation, a nonprofit organization |

| 11 | 12 | | that seeks to enhance cultural understanding among area residents |

| 12 | 13 | | through not only the festival but also scholarships, internships, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | and seminars; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Supported by numerous community volunteers and |

| 15 | 16 | | sponsors, the festival has been held since 2007 and has rapidly |

| 16 | 17 | | grown in popularity, with thousands of people attending each year; |

| 17 | 18 | | this year's racing event is slated to feature over 50 dragon boat |

| 18 | 19 | | teams, including Boy Scout groups, city, corporate, and community |

| 19 | 20 | | teams, and professional dragon boaters; in addition, a team |

| 20 | 21 | | traveling from China is demonstrating the traditional style of |

| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the DFW Dragon Boat, Kite, and Lantern |

| 23 | 24 | | Festival contributes to greater awareness and good fellowship among |

| 24 | 25 | | citizens of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and this rich cultural |

| 25 | 26 | | experience is indeed a testament to the vibrant diversity of the |

| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
