H.R. No. 1058
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Samuel Brehm, a student at Richard King High School
in Corpus Christi, joined with a group of his classmates to win the
high school category at the regional Science Bowl competition held
at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on February 4, 2017;
and
WHEREAS, Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of
Science, the Science Bowl brings together middle and high school
students to participate in a fast-paced academic contest that
touches on disciplines ranging from biology and chemistry to
physics and math; at the regional level, competitors from King High
School bested 19 other teams from South Texas to earn an
all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., where they will take
part in the national competition being held from April 27 to May 1,
2017; and
WHEREAS, Samuel Brehm is a senior at Richard King High
School, where he has distinguished himself by playing with the
Mighty Mustang band and competing in UIL academic events, in Quiz
Bowl, and on the KEDT-TV program Challenge!; 1 of only 18 students
in the world to have recorded a perfect score on the 2016 Advanced
Placement Calculus AB test, he is also an Eagle Scout and a soloist
for the Corpus Christi Ballet Company; he plans to attend Rice
University in the fall of 2017; and
WHEREAS, With their fine showing in the regional Science Bowl
competition, the members of the King High School team have brought
credit to their school and their community, and Samuel Brehm may
take justifiable pride in his contributions to the team's winning
performance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Samuel Brehm on being part of the
2017 regional Science Bowl high school championship team from
Richard King High School and extend to him sincere best wishes for
continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Brehm as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
