45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A full and productive life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Rudolph Victor Darilek of Houston on September 8, 2016,
78 at the age of 94; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of Ludmila and Herman Darilek, Rudy Darilek
910 was born in Shiner on December 7, 1921, and grew up in Moulton; he
1011 ran at least three miles to Moulton High School every day, and he
1112 sometimes raced home to the farm to do his chores before returning
1213 to participate in basketball and other activities; and
1314 WHEREAS, After graduation, Mr. Darilek hitched a ride to
1415 Houston on an egg truck and joined the staff of JMH Supermarkets; he
1516 met the love of his life, Celestine Veselka, during a Paul Jones
1617 dance at the SPJST lodge, and they married on Thanksgiving Day in
1718 1942; during World War II, he served his country in the Pacific
1819 Theater as a member of the 5th Engine Overhaul Squadron, 27th Air
1920 Depot Group in the U.S. Army Air Corps; and
2021 WHEREAS, Mr. Darilek returned to the grocery business,
2122 becoming an owner of JMH No. 5 in the West University neighborhood,
2223 and he was affiliated with the company for 67 years before his
2324 retirement; while running the store, he continued to farm and ranch
2425 on the family homestead in the Bauersville area; he was devoted to
2526 his nine children, Rose, Jo Ann, Henry, Cora, Marjorie, David,
2627 Thomas, Joyce, and Robert, and he not only instilled in his
2728 offspring respect for hard work and a strong sense of integrity but
2829 also ensured that they were surrounded by laughter and music;
2930 through the years, he welcomed 35 grandchildren, and he eventually
3031 became the patriarch of an extended family of 106; and
3132 WHEREAS, Proud of his Czech heritage, Mr. Darilek loved to go
3233 polka dancing with his wife and all their relatives and friends; he
3334 also enjoyed fishing, taking trips to the country with his
3435 brother-in-law, watching sports with his family, and spending time
3536 on the farm; and
3637 WHEREAS, Rudy Darilek will be deeply missed by all who were
3738 privileged to share in his love and friendship, but they will
3839 forever remember his kindness, his inspiring work ethic, and his
3940 wonderful sense of humor; now, therefore, be it
4041 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
4142 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Rudolph Victor
4243 Darilek and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his
4344 passing; and, be it further
4445 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4546 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4647 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Rudy
4748 Darilek.
