| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and productive life drew to a close with the |

| 6 | 7 | | passing of Rudolph Victor Darilek of Houston on September 8, 2016, |

| 7 | 8 | | at the age of 94; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Ludmila and Herman Darilek, Rudy Darilek |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | was born in Shiner on December 7, 1921, and grew up in Moulton; he |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | ran at least three miles to Moulton High School every day, and he |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | sometimes raced home to the farm to do his chores before returning |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | to participate in basketball and other activities; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, After graduation, Mr. Darilek hitched a ride to |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Houston on an egg truck and joined the staff of JMH Supermarkets; he |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | met the love of his life, Celestine Veselka, during a Paul Jones |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | dance at the SPJST lodge, and they married on Thanksgiving Day in |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | 1942; during World War II, he served his country in the Pacific |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Theater as a member of the 5th Engine Overhaul Squadron, 27th Air |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Depot Group in the U.S. Army Air Corps; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Darilek returned to the grocery business, |

| 21 | 22 | | becoming an owner of JMH No. 5 in the West University neighborhood, |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | and he was affiliated with the company for 67 years before his |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | retirement; while running the store, he continued to farm and ranch |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | on the family homestead in the Bauersville area; he was devoted to |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | his nine children, Rose, Jo Ann, Henry, Cora, Marjorie, David, |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Thomas, Joyce, and Robert, and he not only instilled in his |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | offspring respect for hard work and a strong sense of integrity but |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | also ensured that they were surrounded by laughter and music; |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | through the years, he welcomed 35 grandchildren, and he eventually |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | became the patriarch of an extended family of 106; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Proud of his Czech heritage, Mr. Darilek loved to go |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | polka dancing with his wife and all their relatives and friends; he |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | also enjoyed fishing, taking trips to the country with his |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | brother-in-law, watching sports with his family, and spending time |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | on the farm; and |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Rudy Darilek will be deeply missed by all who were |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | privileged to share in his love and friendship, but they will |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | forever remember his kindness, his inspiring work ethic, and his |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | wonderful sense of humor; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|---|
| 41 | 42 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Rudolph Victor |

| 42 | 43 | | Darilek and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his |

| 43 | 44 | | passing; and, be it further |

| 44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
