| 7 | 8 | | Women of Excellence Awards Ceremony on March 9, 2017; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Created in 1989, the Women of Excellence Awards |

| 9 | 10 | | honor individuals for their contributions as leaders and |

| 10 | 11 | | volunteers, highlighting the vital roles that women play in civic |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | and professional endeavors in the Lubbock area; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to giving back to her community, Evelyn |

| 13 | 14 | | Davies has generously donated her time and resources to address |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | charitable needs in Lubbock; since moving to the city with her |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | husband, William Davies, in 1992, she has given hundreds of |

| 16 | 17 | | thousands of dollars to the Lubbock Area Foundation, through which |

| 17 | 18 | | grants have been made to a host of nonprofit organizations |

| 18 | 19 | | benefiting children and youth; she has also supported Texas Tech |

| 19 | 20 | | University, endowing a professorship and a memorial scholarship for |

| 20 | 21 | | the Center for the Study of Addiction and Recovery and donating art |

| 21 | 22 | | collections that are now on display at the Museum of Texas Tech |

| 22 | 23 | | University and the National Ranching Heritage Center; and |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of prominent rancher, civic leader, and |

| 24 | 25 | | philanthropist C. T. McLaughlin, Ms. Davies studied at Texas Tech |

| 25 | 26 | | University before earning her bachelor's degree in English from |

| 26 | 27 | | Chatham College in 1944 and her master's degree from the University |

| 27 | 28 | | of Houston in 1978; she is the former owner of her family's Diamond |

| 28 | 29 | | M Ranch in Snyder and the current director of the Diamond M |

| 29 | 30 | | Foundation, established by her parents in 1949; and |

| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, With her receipt of a Women of Excellence Award, |
