| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Burleson County are gathering in |

| 6 | 7 | | Austin on March 29, 2017, to celebrate the unique role their county |

| 7 | 8 | | has played in the history and culture of the Lone Star State; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Situated among rolling hills and along the broad |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | valley of the Brazos River, the rich farmland of Burleson County |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | drew Anglo-Americans to settle there during the 1820s; the Mexican |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | government placed a fort along the western bank of the Brazos to |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | stem the tide of new inhabitants, but the fort's commander, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Lieutenant Colonel Jose Francisco Ruiz, eventually sided with the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Texans and became a signer of the Texas Declaration of |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Independence; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The town of Caldwell was founded in 1840, and six |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | years later the state legislature established Burleson County, |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | naming it after Texas revolutionary hero General Edward Burleson |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | and choosing Caldwell as the county seat; during the last half of |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | the 19th century, European immigrants, especially Germans, |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | Austrians, Czechs, and Italians, moved to the area and often set up |

| 22 | 23 | | their own communities; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Burleson County is part of the Presidential Corridor |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | linking the LBJ Presidential Library in Austin and the George Bush |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Presidential Library and Museum in College Station; only 90 minutes |

| 26 | 27 | | from Houston and less than three hours from San Antonio to the |

| 27 | 28 | | southwest and Dallas/Fort Worth to the north, the county's central |

| 28 | 29 | | location serves as a friendly passage for thousands of travelers, |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | many of whom stay at the county's motels, bed and breakfast |

| 30 | 31 | | establishments, and campgrounds and take advantage of its numerous |

|---|
| 32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Visitors and residents alike enjoy the county's |

| 33 | 34 | | seasonal festivals, such as the Chilifest and Snook Fest in Snook, |

| 34 | 35 | | and the Great Texas LakeFest, which draws thousands of people to |

| 35 | 36 | | Welch Park along scenic Lake Somerville; they also may celebrate |

| 36 | 37 | | the county's Czech heritage at the Kolache Festival, held every |

| 37 | 38 | | September in Caldwell, which was proclaimed the Kolache Capital of |

| 38 | 39 | | Texas by the Texas Legislature in 1989; and |

| 39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, The county's history is on display at the Kraitchar |

| 40 | 41 | | House Museum, the Somerville Area Museum, the Burleson County Czech |

| 41 | 42 | | Heritage Museum, the Caldwell Visitors Center Museum, and the |

| 42 | 43 | | Burleson County Historical Museum, and throughout the county are 66 |

| 43 | 44 | | historical markers and 120 historic cemeteries; there are also the |

| 44 | 45 | | opportunities for recreation afforded by Davidson Creek Park in |

| 45 | 46 | | Caldwell and the city parks in Somerville and Snook; and |

| 46 | 47 | | WHEREAS, Honoring the past as they work toward an even |

| 47 | 48 | | brighter future, the citizens of Burleson County may take great |
