45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
67 death of Bob Marshall of Houston on November 3, 2016, at the age of
78 95; and
89 WHEREAS, Born on May 9, 1921, Mr. Marshall served during
910 World War II as the executive officer of the 293rd Field Artillery
1011 Sound and Flash Battalion and as commander of Battery A; he saw
1112 heavy combat along the Brittany coast in France and earned the
1213 Meritorious Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the
1314 European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Bronze Star,
1415 and the World War II Victory Medal; after the war, Mr. Marshall
1516 continued to serve in the army reserve; he was called back to active
1617 duty during the Korean War and the Cuban missile crisis, and he
1718 retired after 35 years at the rank of colonel; and
1819 WHEREAS, In civilian life, Mr. Marshall was an engineer and
1920 research and development manager with the Ethyl Corporation for 35
2021 years; in 1982, he began a 30-year tenure with the Meyerland
2122 Community Improvement Association, during which time he helped lead
2223 the effort to raise $500 million in funding for Project Brays Flood
2324 Control; moreover, he was a member of the Harris County Flood
2425 Control Task Force for over 30 years; and
2526 WHEREAS, Mr. Marshall's extensive community involvement
2627 included leadership in the Meyerland Little League program, over
2728 four decades' service as an election judge, and 25 years' service as
2829 head usher at St. Thomas More Catholic Church; he held life
2930 membership in the Republican National Committee and charter
3031 membership in the National World War II Museum and the National
3132 Museum of the U.S. Army; and
3233 WHEREAS, A loving husband and father, Mr. Marshall was joined
3334 in matrimony to the former Edie Hammond from 1944 until her death in
3435 2001; the couple were blessed with five children, Jane Evans, Cille
3536 Crago, Kathy Card, Bobby Marshall, and the late Debbie Harris, as
3637 well as 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and
3738 WHEREAS, Bob Marshall dedicated his life to his family, his
3839 nation, and his community, and he leaves behind a record of service
3940 that will continue to inspire all those who knew and loved him; now,
4041 therefore, be it
4142 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
4243 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Bob Marshall and
4344 extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and many friends; and, be it
4445 further
4546 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4647 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4748 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bob
4849 Marshall.
