5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | death of Bob Marshall of Houston on November 3, 2016, at the age of |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born on May 9, 1921, Mr. Marshall served during |
---|
9 | 10 | | World War II as the executive officer of the 293rd Field Artillery |
---|
10 | 11 | | Sound and Flash Battalion and as commander of Battery A; he saw |
---|
11 | 12 | | heavy combat along the Brittany coast in France and earned the |
---|
12 | 13 | | Meritorious Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the |
---|
13 | 14 | | European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, |
---|
14 | 15 | | and the World War II Victory Medal; after the war, Mr. Marshall |
---|
15 | 16 | | continued to serve in the army reserve; he was called back to active |
---|
16 | 17 | | duty during the Korean War and the Cuban missile crisis, and he |
---|
17 | 18 | | retired after 35 years at the rank of colonel; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In civilian life, Mr. Marshall was an engineer and |

19 | 20 | | research and development manager with the Ethyl Corporation for 35 |
---|
20 | 21 | | years; in 1982, he began a 30-year tenure with the Meyerland |
---|
21 | 22 | | Community Improvement Association, during which time he helped lead |
---|
22 | 23 | | the effort to raise $500 million in funding for Project Brays Flood |
---|
23 | 24 | | Control; moreover, he was a member of the Harris County Flood |
---|
24 | 25 | | Control Task Force for over 30 years; and |
---|
25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Marshall's extensive community involvement |
---|
26 | 27 | | included leadership in the Meyerland Little League program, over |
---|
27 | 28 | | four decades' service as an election judge, and 25 years' service as |
---|
28 | 29 | | head usher at St. Thomas More Catholic Church; he held life |
---|
29 | 30 | | membership in the Republican National Committee and charter |
---|
30 | 31 | | membership in the National World War II Museum and the National |
---|
31 | 32 | | Museum of the U.S. Army; and |
---|
32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, A loving husband and father, Mr. Marshall was joined |

33 | 34 | | in matrimony to the former Edie Hammond from 1944 until her death in |
---|
34 | 35 | | 2001; the couple were blessed with five children, Jane Evans, Cille |
---|
35 | 36 | | Crago, Kathy Card, Bobby Marshall, and the late Debbie Harris, as |
---|
36 | 37 | | well as 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and |
---|
37 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Bob Marshall dedicated his life to his family, his |
---|
38 | 39 | | nation, and his community, and he leaves behind a record of service |
---|
39 | 40 | | that will continue to inspire all those who knew and loved him; now, |
---|
40 | 41 | | therefore, be it |

41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

42 | 43 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Bob Marshall and |

43 | 44 | | extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and many friends; and, be it |
