5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | passing of C. Maye Neal Strange of Georgetown on January 25, 2017, |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of William and Lorena Dunlap, the |

9 | 10 | | former Clara Maye Dunlap was born on July 23, 1920; she grew up on |
---|
10 | 11 | | her family's ranch near Ozona and graduated from Ozona High School |
---|
11 | 12 | | before attending Texas State College for Women and Baylor |
---|
12 | 13 | | University; following her studies, she returned to Ozona, where she |
---|
13 | 14 | | worked as a reporter for the Ozona Stockman and the Midland |
---|
14 | 15 | | Reporter-Telegram; in 1940, she wed Robert Neal, and they later |
---|
15 | 16 | | built their home and ranching business on the Neal Ranch in |
---|
16 | 17 | | Junction, spending 41 cherished years together until his death in |
---|
17 | 18 | | 1981; she remarried in 1988 and went on to enjoy eight years of |
---|
18 | 19 | | marriage to Gwan Strange; and |

19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In addition to ranching, Mrs. Strange also operated |

20 | 21 | | her own women's clothing business, C. Maye's Shoppe, for more than |

21 | 22 | | three decades; she further shared her time and talents with the |
---|
22 | 23 | | community as chair of the First State Bank of Junction board of |
---|
23 | 24 | | directors and as a member of the Daedalian Study Club and the |
---|
24 | 25 | | administrative board of the local First United Methodist Church; |

25 | 26 | | and |

26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Although she will be deeply missed, memories of this |

27 | 28 | | beloved woman will be forever treasured by those who were fortunate |

28 | 29 | | enough to share in the richness of her life; now, therefore, be it |

29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

30 | 31 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of C. Maye Neal Strange |

31 | 32 | | and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of her family: to her |

32 | 33 | | two sons, Robert M. Neal Jr. and his wife, Nancy, and Jon Neal and |

33 | 34 | | his wife, Linda; to her stepson, Joe Strange and his wife, Pam; to |
