5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Bob L. Townsend is retiring from the Richardson City |

6 | 7 | | Council in May 2017, drawing to a close a notable tenure that has |

7 | 8 | | spanned more than a decade and a half; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, First elected to the city council in 2001, |
---|
9 | 10 | | Mr. Townsend went on to serve for eight consecutive terms, |
---|
10 | 11 | | including one term as mayor and three terms as mayor pro tempore; |
---|
11 | 12 | | over the course of his 16 years on the council, he played a vital |
---|
12 | 13 | | role in supporting the development of the Eisemann Center for the |
---|
13 | 14 | | Performing Arts and the Richardson Gymnastics Center, the |
---|
14 | 15 | | renovation of the Heights and Huffhines recreation centers, and the |
---|
15 | 16 | | construction of several fire stations and Dallas Area Rapid Transit |
---|
16 | 17 | | stations; he was also instrumental in the creation of the CityLine |
---|
17 | 18 | | mixed-use development and in bringing the headquarters of Blue |

18 | 19 | | Cross/Blue Shield of Texas and the Fossil retail company to |

20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Among Mr. Townsend's many civic contributions while |

21 | 22 | | in office was the creation of the Mayor's Office of International |

22 | 23 | | Business, which led to Richardson's designation as the official |

23 | 24 | | International Business Capital of North Texas by the 82nd |
---|
24 | 25 | | Legislature; in addition, he represented the city on the Regional |

25 | 26 | | Transportation Council, the Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition, |
---|
26 | 27 | | the North Central Texas Council of Governments, and the Metroplex |
---|
27 | 28 | | Mayors Association; moreover, he has served as an ex officio member |
---|
28 | 29 | | of the board of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce and the |

29 | 30 | | Leadership Richardson Advisory Board; and |
---|
30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Born in Oklahoma, Mr. Townsend pursued his |

31 | 32 | | undergraduate studies at the University of Oklahoma and |
---|
32 | 33 | | Southeastern Oklahoma State University and earned his master's |
---|
33 | 34 | | degree at Southern Methodist University; he retired from Texas |
---|
34 | 35 | | Instruments in 1997 after a rewarding 37-year career with the |
---|
35 | 36 | | company; in all his endeavors, he has enjoyed the love and support |
---|
36 | 37 | | of his wife, Lynn, and he takes great pride in their three children, |
---|
37 | 38 | | seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; and |
---|
38 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Bob Townsend's dedication, expertise, and |
---|
39 | 40 | | commitment to the prosperity and well-being of his community have |
---|
40 | 41 | | greatly benefited the citizens of Richardson, and he may indeed |
---|
41 | 42 | | reflect with satisfaction on a job well done; now, therefore, be it |
---|
42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

43 | 44 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Bob L. Townsend on his retirement |

44 | 45 | | from the Richardson City Council and extend to him sincere best |
---|
45 | 46 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |

46 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
