45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Bob L. Townsend is retiring from the Richardson City
67 Council in May 2017, drawing to a close a notable tenure that has
78 spanned more than a decade and a half; and
89 WHEREAS, First elected to the city council in 2001,
910 Mr. Townsend went on to serve for eight consecutive terms,
1011 including one term as mayor and three terms as mayor pro tempore;
1112 over the course of his 16 years on the council, he played a vital
1213 role in supporting the development of the Eisemann Center for the
1314 Performing Arts and the Richardson Gymnastics Center, the
1415 renovation of the Heights and Huffhines recreation centers, and the
1516 construction of several fire stations and Dallas Area Rapid Transit
1617 stations; he was also instrumental in the creation of the CityLine
1718 mixed-use development and in bringing the headquarters of Blue
1819 Cross/Blue Shield of Texas and the Fossil retail company to
1920 Richardson; and
2021 WHEREAS, Among Mr. Townsend's many civic contributions while
2122 in office was the creation of the Mayor's Office of International
2223 Business, which led to Richardson's designation as the official
2324 International Business Capital of North Texas by the 82nd
2425 Legislature; in addition, he represented the city on the Regional
2526 Transportation Council, the Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition,
2627 the North Central Texas Council of Governments, and the Metroplex
2728 Mayors Association; moreover, he has served as an ex officio member
2829 of the board of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce and the
2930 Leadership Richardson Advisory Board; and
3031 WHEREAS, Born in Oklahoma, Mr. Townsend pursued his
3132 undergraduate studies at the University of Oklahoma and
3233 Southeastern Oklahoma State University and earned his master's
3334 degree at Southern Methodist University; he retired from Texas
3435 Instruments in 1997 after a rewarding 37-year career with the
3536 company; in all his endeavors, he has enjoyed the love and support
3637 of his wife, Lynn, and he takes great pride in their three children,
3738 seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; and
3839 WHEREAS, Bob Townsend's dedication, expertise, and
3940 commitment to the prosperity and well-being of his community have
4041 greatly benefited the citizens of Richardson, and he may indeed
4142 reflect with satisfaction on a job well done; now, therefore, be it
4243 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
4344 Legislature hereby congratulate Bob L. Townsend on his retirement
4445 from the Richardson City Council and extend to him sincere best
4546 wishes for the future; and, be it further
4647 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4748 prepared for Mr. Townsend as an expression of high regard by the
4849 Texas House of Representatives.
