| 7 | 8 | | to the public welfare, they enable us to enjoy the benefits of a |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Too seldom recognized, and sometimes taken for |

| 10 | 11 | | granted by the public they so faithfully serve, these gallant |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | individuals daily risk their lives in order to ensure domestic |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | tranquility and to protect the lives and property of others; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Corrections Officer Mari A. Johnson of the Texas |

| 14 | 15 | | Department of Criminal Justice exemplified in her personal and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | professional conduct the singular virtues of courage, integrity, |

| 16 | 17 | | and steadfast resolve, and throughout her seven years on the force, |

| 17 | 18 | | her meritorious service embodied the highest ideals of her |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | vocation; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Killed in the line of duty on July 16, 2016, Officer |

| 20 | 21 | | Johnson will long be missed by her family, her fellow peace |

| 21 | 22 | | officers, and the entire community; and |

| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Though her life ended far too soon, Officer Johnson |

| 23 | 24 | | left behind a record of public service that is deserving of her |

| 24 | 25 | | fellow citizens' lasting respect and gratitude; now, therefore, be |

| 26 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 27 | 28 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Corrections Officer |
