| 7 | 8 | | to the public welfare, they enable us to enjoy the benefits of a |

| 8 | 9 | | peaceful and orderly society; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Too seldom recognized, and sometimes taken for |

| 10 | 11 | | granted by the public they so faithfully serve, these gallant |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | individuals daily risk their lives in order to ensure domestic |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | tranquility and to protect the lives and property of others; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Officer Calvin "Mark" McCullers Jr. of the Southern |

| 14 | 15 | | Methodist University Police Department exemplified in his personal |

| 15 | 16 | | and professional conduct the singular virtues of courage, |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | integrity, and steadfast resolve, and throughout his one year, five |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | months on the force, his meritorious service embodied the highest |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | ideals of his vocation; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan, who died on July 5, 2016, while |

| 20 | 21 | | working an off-duty security assignment, will long be missed by his |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | family, his fellow peace officers, and the entire community; and |

| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Though his life ended far too soon, Officer |

| 23 | 24 | | McCullers has left behind a record of public service that is |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | deserving of his fellow citizens' lasting respect and gratitude; |

| 26 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 27 | 28 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Officer Calvin "Mark" |

| 28 | 29 | | McCullers Jr. and extend deepest sympathy to his relatives, |

| 29 | 30 | | friends, and fellow officers; and, be it further |
