| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Edgar Lovett Elementary School in Houston has been |

| 8 | 9 | | United States can receive; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program was created |

| 10 | 11 | | by the U.S. Department of Education in 1982 to recognize campuses |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | that have demonstrated superior academic performance or made |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | notable progress in improving outcomes among economically |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | disadvantaged students; Lovett Elementary is one of only 330 public |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | and private schools nationwide and 29 schools in Texas to have |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | earned this impressive honor in 2016; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Skillfully led by principal Dawn Thompson, Lovett |

| 17 | 18 | | Elementary serves some 700 students in prekindergarten through |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | fifth grade in the Houston Independent School District; the |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | institution offers a well-rounded curriculum focusing on fine arts, |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | technology, and health in addition to core academics, and students |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | have long excelled in such areas as music competitions, geography |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | and spelling bees, history and science fairs, and art contests; in |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | recent years, the school has been rated "Exemplary" by the Texas |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Education Agency and recognized as a Higher Performing Campus by |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | the National Center for Educational Achievement; and |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Through dedication, hard work, and perseverance, |

| 27 | 28 | | the teachers and students of Edgar Lovett Elementary School have |

| 28 | 29 | | established a record of scholastic excellence, and their |

| 29 | 30 | | outstanding efforts have been duly recognized with the Blue Ribbon |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
