| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Grand Prairie branch of the NAACP is hosting its |

| 6 | 7 | | 29th Annual Freedom Fund Scholarship Banquet on March 30, 2017; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The NAACP was founded in 1909, with the mission to |

| 8 | 9 | | ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | rights of all people and to eliminate race-based discrimination; |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | the NAACP advocates for the enactment and enforcement of federal, |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | state, and local laws securing civil rights, and over the years, it |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | has played a pivotal role in many groundbreaking legal cases; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The NAACP of Grand Prairie is aligned with its |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | parent organization in seeking to promote justice in the community |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | and throughout the nation at large; the chapter is guided by a |

| 16 | 17 | | skilled leadership team and enjoys the support of numerous |

| 17 | 18 | | volunteers who are truly deserving of commendation; and |

| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, the Freedom Fund |

| 19 | 20 | | Scholarship Banquet has provided members an opportunity to call |

| 20 | 21 | | attention to significant issues of concern to the NAACP and to |

| 21 | 22 | | recognize and reward deserving area students; centered on the theme |

| 22 | 23 | | "Stand United," this year's banquet features a keynote address by |

| 23 | 24 | | motivational speaker Silk Littlejohn; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The men and women of the NAACP have long |

| 25 | 26 | | distinguished themselves as champions for equality in American |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | society, and the Freedom Fund Scholarship Banquet serves to further |
