| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Wilton A. Lanning Jr. is being presented with a Waco |

| 6 | 7 | | Business League Lifetime Achievement Award on January 31, 2017; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Established in 2009, this award recognizes |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | individuals who embody exemplary values and who have made a |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | substantial impact on the community through their generous service; |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | and |

| 11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, A native of Waco, Mr. Lanning graduated from Baylor |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | University and went on to serve as president and CEO of Padgitt's, a |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | local institution that first opened in 1867; during his 40-year |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | tenure, he transformed the business into a high-end electronics |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | shop with a reputation for outstanding customer service; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Deeply engaged in his community, Mr. Lanning has |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | served as executive director of the Waco Business League for more |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | than a decade; he is also the founding president of the Dr Pepper |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Museum and Free Enterprise Institute as well as a member of the Free |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Enterprise Committee; moreover, he has chaired the Greater Waco |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | Chamber of Commerce and the Waco Convention & Visitors Bureau |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Advisory Board and has held numerous board memberships and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | leadership positions with other local financial, medical, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | educational, and cultural organizations; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has garnered such impressive |

| 26 | 27 | | accolades as the Waco Junior Chamber of Commerce Distinguished |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Service Award and inclusion in the Rotary International District |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Hall of Fame; in all his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support |

| 29 | 30 | | of a fine family that includes his wife, LaNell, and his sons, Bill |

| 30 | 31 | | and Robert; and |

| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Wilton Lanning has set an inspiring example of |

| 32 | 33 | | professional leadership and civic engagement, and he may indeed |

| 33 | 34 | | take great pride in his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |

| 34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Wilton A. Lanning Jr. on his |

| 36 | 37 | | receipt of the Waco Business League Lifetime Achievement Award and |
