| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The heroic military service of Ramiro L. Esquivel |

| 7 | 8 | | Order of the Purple Heart at a ceremony aboard the USS Lexington in |

| 8 | 9 | | Corpus Christi on February 28, 2017; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, One of our nation's highest military commendations, |

| 10 | 11 | | the Purple Heart is awarded to members of the U.S. armed forces who |

| 11 | 12 | | have been wounded or killed in combat; the Military Order of the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Purple Heart is a veterans organization founded in 1932 that draws |

| 13 | 14 | | its membership from individuals who have received the medal; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Purple Heart recipient Ramiro L. Esquivel served his |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | nation in Korea as a member of the U.S. Army, and he was wounded in |

| 16 | 17 | | action on August 30, 1950, September 22, 1950, and January 13, 1951; |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | and |

| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Esquivel was one of 16 living Purple Heart |

| 19 | 20 | | recipients who were recognized at the ceremony in Corpus Christi, |

| 20 | 21 | | along with two others who lost their lives in the line of duty; |

| 21 | 22 | | among those paying tribute to the honorees were Brigadier General |

| 22 | 23 | | James Mobley, Vietnam veteran J. R. Pena, and the color guard of the |

| 23 | 24 | | W. B. Ray High School Naval Junior ROTC; and |

| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt of gratitude to Ramiro |

| 25 | 26 | | L. Esquivel for putting himself in harm's way to defend our freedom, |

| 26 | 27 | | and his selfless efforts are a source of inspiration for all who |

| 27 | 28 | | know him; now, therefore, be it |

| 28 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 29 | 30 | | Legislature hereby honor Ramiro L. Esquivel on the occasion of his |
