| 9 | 10 | | de la Fuente, Gilbert Lozano was born in Brownsville on July 13, |

| 10 | 11 | | 1944; he worked in a grocery store and at a hotel restaurant while |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | attending Edinburg High School; coming of age during the Vietnam |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | War era, he served his country in the United States Army, and he was |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | deployed to Panama during a crisis in the Canal Zone; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Following his military service, Mr. Lozano worked |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | for General Motors in Michigan; he subsequently returned to the Rio |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Grande Valley, where he completed his education at Texas Southmost |

| 17 | 18 | | College and embarked on a career as a probation officer in Cameron |

| 18 | 19 | | County; he later transferred to the Willacy County Probation |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Department and settled in Raymondville; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Lozano was employed in probation for 25 years |

| 21 | 22 | | before his retirement; still eager to serve, he became the county's |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | district clerk in 2003; he was determined to end the financial |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | burden caused by an inefficient system of rotating state district |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | judges in the county, and with the help of his state senator, he |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | succeeded in having jurisdiction consolidated under a single court; |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | in addition, he benefited his fellow citizens as a member of the |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Lions Club, VFW Post No. 6719, and American Legion Post No. 390; |

| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Lozano and his first wife, Anna Lopez, were |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | blessed with five children, David, Gilbert, Elizabeth, Cristine, |

| 31 | 32 | | and Justin; in 1984, he wed the former Viola Cavazos, and they |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | shared a quarter century of marriage; he loved to visit his children |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | in Michigan, and he was devoted to his 10 grandchildren, his 10 |

| 34 | 35 | | step-grandchildren, and his great-grandchild; genial and |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | good-hearted, he showed compassion through many kind acts, and he |

| 36 | 37 | | enjoyed taking friends, colleagues, and acquaintances out fishing |

| 37 | 38 | | on his boat; and |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Gilbert Lozano made a meaningful difference in the |

| 39 | 40 | | lives of his loved ones and fellow citizens alike, and his |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | contributions will be fondly remembered for years to come; now, |

| 42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
