| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt by |

| 7 | 8 | | Walker of the Little Elm Police Department, who was killed in the |

| 8 | 9 | | line of duty on January 17, 2017, at the age of 47; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Born in Tyler on November 10, 1969, Jerry Walker |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | graduated from J. P. Taravella High School in 1989 and went on to |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | serve his country in the United States Army during Operation Desert |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Storm; he joined the Little Elm Police Department in 1998, working |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | for a time as a school resource officer at Little Elm High before |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | being promoted to detective in 2013; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Detective Walker embraced the role of law |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | enforcement to serve and protect the public; a member of the SWAT |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | team and a certified hostage negotiator, he was also certified as an |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | advanced peace officer and earned distinction as an expert marksman |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | at police rifle competitions; he further benefited his community by |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | participating in volunteer work alongside his fellow officers, |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | which included donating his time to the local Special Olympics; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, This loving family man was deeply devoted to his |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | four children, Darien, Landon, Jace, and Lexi, and his life was |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | greatly enriched by the close bonds he shared with his family and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | with his brothers and sisters on the force; and |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, While his untimely death is a tragic loss to the |

| 27 | 28 | | community he served, those who were fortunate enough to know |

| 28 | 29 | | Detective Jerry Walker will forever find inspiration in the |

| 29 | 30 | | courage, dedication, and heroism with which he lived his life; now, |
