45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt by
67 the family, friends, and colleagues of Detective Jerry Ronald
78 Walker of the Little Elm Police Department, who was killed in the
89 line of duty on January 17, 2017, at the age of 47; and
910 WHEREAS, Born in Tyler on November 10, 1969, Jerry Walker
1011 graduated from J. P. Taravella High School in 1989 and went on to
1112 serve his country in the United States Army during Operation Desert
1213 Storm; he joined the Little Elm Police Department in 1998, working
1314 for a time as a school resource officer at Little Elm High before
1415 being promoted to detective in 2013; and
1516 WHEREAS, Detective Walker embraced the role of law
1617 enforcement to serve and protect the public; a member of the SWAT
1718 team and a certified hostage negotiator, he was also certified as an
1819 advanced peace officer and earned distinction as an expert marksman
1920 at police rifle competitions; he further benefited his community by
2021 participating in volunteer work alongside his fellow officers,
2122 which included donating his time to the local Special Olympics; and
2223 WHEREAS, This loving family man was deeply devoted to his
2324 four children, Darien, Landon, Jace, and Lexi, and his life was
2425 greatly enriched by the close bonds he shared with his family and
2526 with his brothers and sisters on the force; and
2627 WHEREAS, While his untimely death is a tragic loss to the
2728 community he served, those who were fortunate enough to know
2829 Detective Jerry Walker will forever find inspiration in the
2930 courage, dedication, and heroism with which he lived his life; now,
3031 therefore, be it
3132 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3233 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Detective Jerry
3334 Ronald Walker and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of
3435 his family: to his children, Darien, Landon, Jace, and Lexi Walker;
3536 to his parents, Beverly and Robert Walker; to his father, Jerry R.
3637 Bragg; to his sisters, Peisha Ortiz, Neala Rankin, Danielle Walker,
3738 and Amanda Bragg; to his brother, Bryan Bragg; to his grandmothers,
3839 Louise Guthrie and Louise Walker; to his girlfriend, Hali Grooms;
3940 and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4041 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4142 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4243 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jerry
4344 Walker.
