45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
67 a close with the passing of Gerald Dale Gaus of Lewisville on
78 February 27, 2017, at the age of 75; and
89 WHEREAS, The adopted son of Alvin and Laura Gaus, Dale Gaus
910 was born on January 14, 1942, and raised in Herscher, Illinois; he
1011 attended Concordia College and subsequently answered his nation's
1112 call to duty, joining the United States Air Force and serving with
1213 the Air Training Command during the Vietnam War; an electronics
1314 instructor in the radio radar field, he taught cryptography to
1415 members of all branches of the U.S. armed forces, and though he was
1516 primarily stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, he
1617 also spent time at Langley AFB in Virginia and aboard the naval
1718 nuclear submarine USS Triton; he attained the rank of sergeant
1819 prior to his discharge from the armed forces; and
1920 WHEREAS, After his return to civilian life, Mr. Gaus began
2021 teaching the collection and processing of seismographic data from
2122 the ocean floor to individuals involved in oil exploration, work
2223 that took him to locations across the globe; he later served as a
2324 fiber optics and satellite telecommunications instructor; and
2425 WHEREAS, In his leisure time, Mr. Gaus pursued his great
2526 passion for music; in addition to being a gifted pianist and
2627 organist, he was a member of the Dallas-based ensemble Vocal
2728 Majority for nearly four decades, during which time he won numerous
2829 gold medals at international singing competitions and performed
2930 with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and at the inauguration of
3031 President Ronald Reagan; he was also active in his community as a
3132 congregant of the Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Flower Mound, where
3233 he contributed his vocal talents to the What's the Message webcast,
3334 and as chaplain for American Legion Post No. 182 in Little Elm; and
3435 WHEREAS, Mr. Gaus treasured the moments he spent with his
3536 family above all else; he shared more than half a century of
3637 marriage with his wife, the former Beverly Bailey, and over the
3738 years, the couple were blessed with a fine family that included two
3839 children, Linda Asbell and Kevin Gaus, and three granddaughters,
3940 Summer, Zarred, and Molly; and
4041 WHEREAS, A man who never met a stranger, Dale Gaus brought joy
4142 to innumerable people through his positive attitude, generosity of
4243 spirit, and wonderful sense of humor; although he will be deeply
4344 missed, those who were privileged to know him will continue to find
4445 inspiration in their memories of his profound commitment to his
4546 family, his community, and his country; now, therefore, be it
4647 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
4748 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gerald Dale Gaus and
4849 extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and many friends; and,
4950 be it further
5051 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5152 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5253 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Gerald Dale
5354 Gaus.
