H.R. No. 1171
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. J. Kie Bowman is being honored on May 21, 2017,
for his 20 years of dedicated service as the senior pastor of Hyde
Park Baptist Church in Austin; and
WHEREAS, In 1997, Dr. Bowman took on leadership of the
church, and 10 years later, he guided the establishment of a second
campus, The Quarries Church; he has served on the executive
committee of the Southern Baptist Convention, and over the years,
he has benefited the organization at the state and national levels
in numerous key roles, including as chair and trustee of the
Southern Baptists of Texas Convention; during the 83rd Texas
Legislature, he served the House of Representatives as chaplain;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. Bowman is much in demand as a preacher for state
evangelism conferences, national conventions, and other events,
and he has delivered keynote messages at international conferences
in Ireland, Paraguay, and Switzerland; moreover, he presented a
paper on American evangelicalism at the University of Oxford in
England; he is the author of three books on the New Testament and
has contributed to more than a dozen other works; a graduate of the
University of the Cumberlands, Dr. Bowman holds both a master of
divinity and a doctor of ministry degree from Southwestern Baptist
Theological Seminary; and
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Bowman is supported by the
love and encouragement of his wife, Tina, and their children,
Amanda, Laura, and Joseph; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his notable tenure, Kie Bowman has
wholeheartedly committed himself to advancing the mission of Hyde
Park Baptist Church, and his leadership has provided valued
inspiration and guidance to his community of faith; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. J. Kie Bowman on the joyous
occasion of his 20th anniversary with Hyde Park Baptist Church in
Austin and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Dr. Bowman as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
