| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. J. Kie Bowman is being honored on May 21, 2017, |

| 6 | 7 | | for his 20 years of dedicated service as the senior pastor of Hyde |

| 7 | 8 | | Park Baptist Church in Austin; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, In 1997, Dr. Bowman took on leadership of the |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | church, and 10 years later, he guided the establishment of a second |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | campus, The Quarries Church; he has served on the executive |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | committee of the Southern Baptist Convention, and over the years, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | he has benefited the organization at the state and national levels |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | in numerous key roles, including as chair and trustee of the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Southern Baptists of Texas Convention; during the 83rd Texas |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Legislature, he served the House of Representatives as chaplain; |

| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Bowman is much in demand as a preacher for state |

| 18 | 19 | | evangelism conferences, national conventions, and other events, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | and he has delivered keynote messages at international conferences |

| 20 | 21 | | in Ireland, Paraguay, and Switzerland; moreover, he presented a |

| 21 | 22 | | paper on American evangelicalism at the University of Oxford in |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | England; he is the author of three books on the New Testament and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | has contributed to more than a dozen other works; a graduate of the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | University of the Cumberlands, Dr. Bowman holds both a master of |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | divinity and a doctor of ministry degree from Southwestern Baptist |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Theological Seminary; and |

| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Bowman is supported by the |

| 28 | 29 | | love and encouragement of his wife, Tina, and their children, |

| 29 | 30 | | Amanda, Laura, and Joseph; and |

| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his notable tenure, Kie Bowman has |
