45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life centered on faith and
67 family drew to a close on March 11, 2017, with the passing of the
78 Reverend Lavoyd W. Dollar of Waxahachie at the age of 87; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of Sidney and Ola Mae Hall Dollar, L. W.
910 Dollar was born on October 1, 1929, in Booneville, Arkansas, where
1011 he grew up in the company of nine siblings; in 1954, he hitchhiked
1112 to Waxahachie to enroll at Southwestern Bible Institute, beginning
1213 his studies for a life in the ministry; and
1314 WHEREAS, Reverend Dollar served as the pastor of First
1415 Assembly of God for more than 18 years, and his commitment to
1516 sharing the gospel inspired him to lead and sponsor numerous
1617 mission trips; in addition to his work as a religious leader, he was
1718 a partner in Dollar & Rogers Construction for 42 years; and
1819 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Reverend Dollar was blessed
1920 with the love and support of Verna Rogers Dollar, his wife of 68
2021 years, and they became the parents of seven children, Jan Blount,
2122 Debbie Miles, and Kenneth, Roger, Carol, Gerald, and Gary Dollar;
2223 with the passing years, the family grew to include 25 grandchildren
2324 and more than 40 great-grandchildren; and
2425 WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Reverend Dollar remained
2526 deeply devoted to education; he was an ardent supporter of his alma
2627 mater, Southwestern Assemblies of God University, and at age 82, he
2728 earned a master's degree in practical theology from the university,
2829 proving his maxim that a person is never too old to learn; and
2930 WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known the Reverend
3031 L. W. Dollar will remember the way he touched their lives with his
3132 strength and gentle spirit, and he will forever hold a treasured
3233 place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3334 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3435 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Reverend Lavoyd W.
3536 Dollar and extend sincere condolences to his family and many
3637 friends; and, be it further
3738 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3839 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
3940 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Reverend
4041 Dollar.
