5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life centered on faith and |

6 | 7 | | family drew to a close on March 11, 2017, with the passing of the |

7 | 8 | | Reverend Lavoyd W. Dollar of Waxahachie at the age of 87; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Sidney and Ola Mae Hall Dollar, L. W. |
---|
9 | 10 | | Dollar was born on October 1, 1929, in Booneville, Arkansas, where |
---|
10 | 11 | | he grew up in the company of nine siblings; in 1954, he hitchhiked |
---|
11 | 12 | | to Waxahachie to enroll at Southwestern Bible Institute, beginning |
---|
12 | 13 | | his studies for a life in the ministry; and |
---|
13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Reverend Dollar served as the pastor of First |
---|
14 | 15 | | Assembly of God for more than 18 years, and his commitment to |
---|
15 | 16 | | sharing the gospel inspired him to lead and sponsor numerous |
---|
16 | 17 | | mission trips; in addition to his work as a religious leader, he was |
---|
17 | 18 | | a partner in Dollar & Rogers Construction for 42 years; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Reverend Dollar was blessed |
---|
19 | 20 | | with the love and support of Verna Rogers Dollar, his wife of 68 |
---|
20 | 21 | | years, and they became the parents of seven children, Jan Blount, |
---|
21 | 22 | | Debbie Miles, and Kenneth, Roger, Carol, Gerald, and Gary Dollar; |
---|
22 | 23 | | with the passing years, the family grew to include 25 grandchildren |
---|
23 | 24 | | and more than 40 great-grandchildren; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Reverend Dollar remained |
---|
25 | 26 | | deeply devoted to education; he was an ardent supporter of his alma |
---|
26 | 27 | | mater, Southwestern Assemblies of God University, and at age 82, he |
---|
27 | 28 | | earned a master's degree in practical theology from the university, |
---|
28 | 29 | | proving his maxim that a person is never too old to learn; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known the Reverend |
---|
30 | 31 | | L. W. Dollar will remember the way he touched their lives with his |
---|
31 | 32 | | strength and gentle spirit, and he will forever hold a treasured |
---|
32 | 33 | | place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
---|
34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Reverend Lavoyd W. |

35 | 36 | | Dollar and extend sincere condolences to his family and many |

36 | 37 | | friends; and, be it further |
