56 WHEREAS, Residents of Baytown are gathering together for the
67 2017 National Night Out Against Crime; and
78 WHEREAS, Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch,
89 this annual event provides an opportunity for Texans to join forces
910 with individuals in thousands of other towns and cities across the
1011 country to promote cooperative crime prevention efforts; and
1112 WHEREAS, Each year, neighborhoods host cookouts, parades,
1213 flashlight walks, and other activities for National Night Out,
1314 helping to build community cohesiveness, strengthen relations
1415 between residents and local police, and increase awareness of
1516 anticrime strategies while sending a message of solidarity to
1617 would-be criminals; and
1718 WHEREAS, The importance of reducing crime, drug use, and
1819 violence cannot be overstated, and by taking part in National Night
1920 Out observances, Texans affirm their commitment to making their
2021 communities stronger and safer; now, therefore, be it
2122 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2223 Legislature hereby recognize the 2017 National Night Out Against
2324 Crime in Baytown as an essential crime prevention event and commend
2425 all those involved in this vital endeavor.
