| 8 | 9 | | this annual event provides an opportunity for Texans to join forces |

| 9 | 10 | | with individuals in thousands of other towns and cities across the |

| 10 | 11 | | country to promote cooperative crime prevention efforts; and |

| 11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Each year, neighborhoods host cookouts, parades, |

| 12 | 13 | | flashlight walks, and other activities for National Night Out, |

| 13 | 14 | | helping to build community cohesiveness, strengthen relations |

| 14 | 15 | | between residents and local police, and increase awareness of |

| 15 | 16 | | anticrime strategies while sending a message of solidarity to |

| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The importance of reducing crime, drug use, and |

| 18 | 19 | | violence cannot be overstated, and by taking part in National Night |

| 19 | 20 | | Out observances, Texans affirm their commitment to making their |

| 21 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 22 | 23 | | Legislature hereby recognize the 2017 National Night Out Against |

| 24 | 25 | | commend all those involved in this vital endeavor. |
