H.R. No. 1212
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Wilbur Smith Rotary Club of Texarkana is
celebrating its 100th anniversary on April 4, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Chartered in 1917, the club had an initial
membership of approximately 30 individuals dedicated to the
betterment of their North Texas community; Rotarians further seek
to promote high ethical standards and to advance international
understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of
business and professional persons united in the ideal of service;
and
WHEREAS, Members of the Wilbur Smith Rotary Club have worked
tirelessly since its inception to improve the lives of children and
adults with disabilities; they have also benefited the Boy Scouts
and summer athletic teams and been involved in both the
establishment of the Texarkana Community Foundation and in the
development of a formula for its continued funding; in addition,
the group sponsors an annual awards event to highlight the
accomplishments of teachers and public servants; and
WHEREAS, Through its Flag Project, the club contributes more
than $1 million to Texarkana; the group built a park for the
enjoyment of area residents, as well as the Rotary Splash Pad, which
welcomes thousands of children each year, and it has partnered with
other Rotary Clubs, local organizations, and corporate sponsors for
a variety of additional initiatives; and
WHEREAS, The Wilbur Smith Rotary Club has made a lasting,
positive difference through the committed efforts of its members,
past and present, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor this
noteworthy organization as it marks this momentous milestone in its
long history; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Wilbur Smith Rotary Club on its
100th anniversary and extend to its members sincere best wishes for
continued success in their worthwhile endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
