| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Wilbur Smith Rotary Club of Texarkana is |

| 6 | 7 | | celebrating its 100th anniversary on April 4, 2017; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Chartered in 1917, the club had an initial |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | membership of approximately 30 individuals dedicated to the |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | betterment of their North Texas community; Rotarians further seek |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | to promote high ethical standards and to advance international |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | business and professional persons united in the ideal of service; |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Wilbur Smith Rotary Club have worked |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | tirelessly since its inception to improve the lives of children and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | adults with disabilities; they have also benefited the Boy Scouts |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | and summer athletic teams and been involved in both the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | establishment of the Texarkana Community Foundation and in the |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | development of a formula for its continued funding; in addition, |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | the group sponsors an annual awards event to highlight the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | accomplishments of teachers and public servants; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Through its Flag Project, the club contributes more |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | than $1 million to Texarkana; the group built a park for the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | enjoyment of area residents, as well as the Rotary Splash Pad, which |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | welcomes thousands of children each year, and it has partnered with |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | other Rotary Clubs, local organizations, and corporate sponsors for |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | a variety of additional initiatives; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, The Wilbur Smith Rotary Club has made a lasting, |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | positive difference through the committed efforts of its members, |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | past and present, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor this |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | noteworthy organization as it marks this momentous milestone in its |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | long history; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Wilbur Smith Rotary Club on its |

| 35 | 36 | | 100th anniversary and extend to its members sincere best wishes for |

| 36 | 37 | | continued success in their worthwhile endeavors; and, be it further |
