| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Olubukola Abubakar Saraki, president of the |

| 6 | 7 | | Nigerian senate, is visiting Houston in May 2017; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Elected to his current office in 2015, "Bukola" |

| 8 | 9 | | Saraki first joined his country's senate in 2011 as a |

| 9 | 10 | | representative for the Kwara Central district, and he was reelected |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | four years later; he previously served as governor of Kwara State |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | from 2003 to 2011; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Senator Saraki is the son of Olusola Saraki, a |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | former senate leader, and Florence Morenike Saraki; born in 1962, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Mr. Saraki attended King's College in Lagos and Cheltenham College |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | in Gloucestershire, England, before going on to complete his |

| 16 | 17 | | medical degree at the London Hospital Medical College of the |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | University of London; he was employed as a medical officer at Rush |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Green Hospital in London and then returned to his native country and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | embarked on a new career, becoming director of Societe Generale |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Bank; and |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Appointed as special assistant to Nigeria's |

| 22 | 23 | | president for budgetary matters in 2000, Senator Saraki initiated |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | the Fiscal Responsibility Bill; he also served on the Economic |

| 24 | 25 | | Policy Coordination Committee and assumed responsibility for the |

| 25 | 26 | | formulation and implementation of several key economic policies for |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | the country; and |

| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Senator Saraki is married to Omoba Toyin Saraki, and |

| 28 | 29 | | they are the parents of four children; and |

| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his legislative career, Bukola |

| 30 | 31 | | Saraki has brought to his duties extensive experience and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | formidable skills, and it is indeed fitting that he be honored for |

| 32 | 33 | | his contributions to his country; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby recognize Olubukola Abubakar Saraki for his |

| 35 | 36 | | service as president of the Nigerian senate and extend to him |

| 36 | 37 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
