 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Jackie Nations is concluding a remarkable 30-year
 tenure on the Van City Council in May 2017; and
 WHEREAS, First elected in 1984, Mr. Nations served two
 consecutive terms before deciding not to run again; he was soon
 asked to complete the term of a council member who had stepped down,
 however, and he has served on the council ever since; throughout his
 time in office, he has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to
 addressing the concerns of his constituents; he also served his
 fellow citizens for 45 years as a member of the Van Volunteer Fire
 Department; and
 WHEREAS, Born in Grand Saline in December 1948, Mr. Nations
 lived in Wisdom Temple for a year before his family moved to Van,
 where he graduated from high school; he went on to complete an
 associate degree in petroleum technology at Tyler Junior College,
 and in later years he earned a second associate degree from TJC in
 engineering; Mr. Nations began working for Union Oil Company of
 California in 1970, in his hometown; he interrupted his career with
 the company to serve in the United States Army for two years and
 then returned to UNOCAL in 1973; following the sale of the company
 to Chevron in 2005, he continued his employment as a facilities
 engineering supervisor for a further six years, a stint broken
 briefly by a six-month attempt at retirement; since 2010, this
 esteemed Texan has worked for an oil and gas consulting company; and
 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Nations enjoys the support
 and encouragement of his wife, Rhea Lene; he takes great pride in
 his daughter, Eryka Sewell, and his four grandchildren; his return
 to private life will allow him to become even more involved at his
 church, as well as to pursue his interests in golf, hunting, sports,
 and auto shows; and
 WHEREAS, Jackie Nations has greatly benefited his community
 over the past three decades through his outstanding contributions
 as a member of the Van City Council, and his desire to serve others
 and work toward the greater good sets an inspiring example for his
 fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Jackie Nations for his 30 years of service
 on the Van City Council and extend to him sincere best wishes for
 continued happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Nations as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
