5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Jackie Nations is concluding a remarkable 30-year |

6 | 7 | | tenure on the Van City Council in May 2017; and |
---|
7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, First elected in 1984, Mr. Nations served two |
---|
8 | 9 | | consecutive terms before deciding not to run again; he was soon |
---|
9 | 10 | | asked to complete the term of a council member who had stepped down, |
---|
10 | 11 | | however, and he has served on the council ever since; throughout his |
---|
11 | 12 | | time in office, he has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to |
---|
12 | 13 | | addressing the concerns of his constituents; he also served his |
---|
13 | 14 | | fellow citizens for 45 years as a member of the Van Volunteer Fire |
---|
14 | 15 | | Department; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Born in Grand Saline in December 1948, Mr. Nations |
---|
16 | 17 | | lived in Wisdom Temple for a year before his family moved to Van, |
---|
17 | 18 | | where he graduated from high school; he went on to complete an |
---|
18 | 19 | | associate degree in petroleum technology at Tyler Junior College, |
---|
19 | 20 | | and in later years he earned a second associate degree from TJC in |
---|
20 | 21 | | engineering; Mr. Nations began working for Union Oil Company of |
---|
21 | 22 | | California in 1970, in his hometown; he interrupted his career with |
---|
22 | 23 | | the company to serve in the United States Army for two years and |
---|
23 | 24 | | then returned to UNOCAL in 1973; following the sale of the company |
---|
24 | 25 | | to Chevron in 2005, he continued his employment as a facilities |
---|
25 | 26 | | engineering supervisor for a further six years, a stint broken |
---|
26 | 27 | | briefly by a six-month attempt at retirement; since 2010, this |
---|
27 | 28 | | esteemed Texan has worked for an oil and gas consulting company; and |
---|
28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Nations enjoys the support |
---|
29 | 30 | | and encouragement of his wife, Rhea Lene; he takes great pride in |
---|
30 | 31 | | his daughter, Eryka Sewell, and his four grandchildren; his return |
---|
31 | 32 | | to private life will allow him to become even more involved at his |
---|
32 | 33 | | church, as well as to pursue his interests in golf, hunting, sports, |
---|
33 | 34 | | and auto shows; and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Jackie Nations has greatly benefited his community |
---|
35 | 36 | | over the past three decades through his outstanding contributions |
---|
36 | 37 | | as a member of the Van City Council, and his desire to serve others |
---|
37 | 38 | | and work toward the greater good sets an inspiring example for his |
---|
38 | 39 | | fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
---|
40 | 41 | | Legislature hereby honor Jackie Nations for his 30 years of service |
---|
41 | 42 | | on the Van City Council and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
---|
42 | 43 | | continued happiness; and, be it further |

43 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

44 | 45 | | prepared for Mr. Nations as an expression of high regard by the |
