| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, April 13, 2017, is being observed as Mommies |

| 6 | 7 | | Enduring Neonatal Death Day at the State Capitol, and this occasion |

| 7 | 8 | | offers an opportunity to recognize the M.E.N.D. organization and |

| 8 | 9 | | the meaningful assistance that it has provided to grieving |

|---|
| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, M.E.N.D. was founded in 1996 by Rebekah and Byron |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Mitchell, who had suffered the loss of their son, Jonathan, the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | previous year and felt moved to seek out and comfort other families |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, or early infant |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | death; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The first chapter of M.E.N.D. was established in the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, where the organization continues to |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | host a variety of support groups each month, and additional |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | chapters have been formed in communities across Texas as well as in |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Oklahoma, Illinois, Missouri, and Washington; M.E.N.D. also |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | reaches families around the world through a bimonthly newsletter |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | and a number of Facebook groups, and it maintains a website offering |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | a range of online resources for families navigating the grieving |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | process and for the health care providers who serve them; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Rebekah and Byron Mitchell have transformed their |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | personal tragedy into a movement that touches the lives of |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | countless people, and all those involved with M.E.N.D. are to be |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | commended for the compassion and kindness with which they have |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | helped one another on the path to healing; now, therefore, be it |
