| 11 | 12 | | school principal, Marta Plata, as a program for boys in the fifth |

| 12 | 13 | | grade with the goal of encouraging positive behaviors and reducing |

| 13 | 14 | | bullying, gang recruitment, and disrespect for teachers; and |

| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In support of this worthwhile effort, Sergeant |

| 15 | 16 | | Mendoza and two of his fellow FWPD officers visit the school weekly |

| 16 | 17 | | to speak to the club's members about leadership and to engage |

| 17 | 18 | | participants in a game of football or basketball; the officers |

| 18 | 19 | | occasionally have lunch with the students as well, and they have |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | also helped to deliver Christmas trees during the holiday season |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, A Fort Worth native, Sergeant Mendoza graduated from |

| 22 | 23 | | the police academy in 1999; during his first eight years with the |

| 23 | 24 | | FWPD, he served in a number of different capacities, including as a |

| 24 | 25 | | patrol officer, a downtown bike patrol officer, and a member of the |

| 25 | 26 | | Gang Enforcement Unit; he went on to join the North Division |

| 26 | 27 | | Criminal Investigation Unit as a corporal and detective, and after |

| 27 | 28 | | three years, he was selected as a member of the Intelligence |

| 28 | 29 | | Section's criminal tracking unit; he earned promotion to the rank |

| 29 | 30 | | of sergeant in 2013, and he currently serves in the North Division; |
