| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Lynn Wyatt of Houston has been named the 2017 Texas |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Medal of Arts program pays tribute to |

| 9 | 10 | | residents of the Lone Star State who have significantly benefited a |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | variety of artistic disciplines, through either personal |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | achievement or benevolent support; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A third-generation Texan, Lynn Sakowitz Wyatt has |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | long been a philanthropist and civic leader; locally, she chaired |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | the Houston Grand Opera's 50th anniversary Golden Jubilee Gala, |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | which raised $2.5 million for the company, and featured such |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | international stars as Renée Fleming, Bryn Terfel, Philip Glass, |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | and Elton John; Mrs. Wyatt is also chair emeritus of the Brilliant |

| 18 | 19 | | Lecture Series' Youth Leadership Program and a life trustee of the |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Star of Hope Mission, and in 1980, Governor William P. Clements |

| 20 | 21 | | named her an Ambassador of Goodwill for the State of Texas; and |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Active in a number of efforts at the national level |

| 22 | 23 | | as well, Mrs. Wyatt is a founding trustee of the Princess Grace |

| 23 | 24 | | Foundation USA, and she chaired the inaugural gala in Washington, |

| 24 | 25 | | D.C., for President Ronald Reagan; as President Reagan's appointee, |

| 25 | 26 | | she served for eight years on the board of the U.S. Naval Academy; |

| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has shared her time and |

| 28 | 29 | | resources with the international community as well, serving as |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | chair of the Bal de la Rose in Monaco, an annual event that she |

| 30 | 31 | | transformed into a weekend of festivities benefiting the Red Cross |

| 31 | 32 | | and the American Hospital of Paris; she is also a special advisor to |

| 32 | 33 | | Nobel laureate Luc Montagnier, president of the World Foundation |

| 33 | 34 | | for Medical Research and Prevention, and she has generously |

| 34 | 35 | | supported the Elton John AIDS Foundation; and |

| 35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Wyatt's many honors include the Masterson Award |

| 37 | 38 | | Forum, and she was inducted into France's prestigious Order of Arts |

| 38 | 39 | | and Letters as a chevalier in 1982, with a promotion to the rank of |

| 39 | 40 | | officer in 2007; moreover, she has been named Houston's Most |

| 40 | 41 | | Fascinating by the Texas Medical Center Library, Socialite of the |

| 41 | 42 | | Century by Texas Monthly, and a Cadillac Texas Legend by KHOU-TV in |

| 43 | 44 | | WHEREAS, Cultural organizations across the Lone Star State |

| 44 | 45 | | and beyond have benefited immeasurably from the altruism of Lynn |

| 46 | 47 | | person can accomplish; now, therefore, be it |

| 47 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 48 | 49 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Lynn Wyatt on her selection as the |

| 49 | 50 | | 2017 Texas Medal of Arts honoree for Individual Arts Patron and |
