5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Proud representatives of the city of Keene are |

6 | 7 | | visiting the State Capitol on April 11, 2017, and this occasion |

7 | 8 | | provides a welcome opportunity to recognize this vibrant community; |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Located south of Fort Worth on the historic Chisholm |

10 | 11 | | Trail, Keene also enjoys close proximity to the southern terminus |

11 | 12 | | of the new Chisholm Trail Parkway, which connects Fort Worth to |

12 | 13 | | Cleburne; and |
---|
13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Keene was founded in 1890, and four years later, the |
---|
14 | 15 | | precursor of Southwestern Adventist University opened in the town; |
---|
15 | 16 | | that notable institution helped the community establish a tradition |
---|
16 | 17 | | of public interest in higher education, healthy living, and service |
---|
17 | 18 | | to others; the city was incorporated in 1955; and |

18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Representing the community at the Capitol are Brian |

19 | 20 | | LaBorde, the city manager, Michael Talley, the city economic |
---|
20 | 21 | | development director, and David Patterson, a member of the city |
---|
21 | 22 | | council and president of the board of the Keene Economic |
---|
22 | 23 | | Development Corporation; and |

23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, For more than a century, residents of Keene have |

24 | 25 | | contributed to the economic and cultural development of Texas, and |

25 | 26 | | they are justifiably proud of their rich history; now, therefore, |

27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

28 | 29 | | Legislature hereby honor the city of Keene and extend to the |

29 | 30 | | visiting delegation sincere best wishes for a productive and |

30 | 31 | | enjoyable visit to Austin; and, be it further |

31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
