45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Proud representatives of the city of Keene are
67 visiting the State Capitol on April 11, 2017, and this occasion
78 provides a welcome opportunity to recognize this vibrant community;

910 WHEREAS, Located south of Fort Worth on the historic Chisholm
1011 Trail, Keene also enjoys close proximity to the southern terminus
1112 of the new Chisholm Trail Parkway, which connects Fort Worth to
1213 Cleburne; and
1314 WHEREAS, Keene was founded in 1890, and four years later, the
1415 precursor of Southwestern Adventist University opened in the town;
1516 that notable institution helped the community establish a tradition
1617 of public interest in higher education, healthy living, and service
1718 to others; the city was incorporated in 1955; and
1819 WHEREAS, Representing the community at the Capitol are Brian
1920 LaBorde, the city manager, Michael Talley, the city economic
2021 development director, and David Patterson, a member of the city
2122 council and president of the board of the Keene Economic
2223 Development Corporation; and
2324 WHEREAS, For more than a century, residents of Keene have
2425 contributed to the economic and cultural development of Texas, and
2526 they are justifiably proud of their rich history; now, therefore,
2627 be it
2728 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2829 Legislature hereby honor the city of Keene and extend to the
2930 visiting delegation sincere best wishes for a productive and
3031 enjoyable visit to Austin; and, be it further
3132 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3233 prepared for the city of Keene as an expression of high regard by
3334 the Texas House of Representatives.
