45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The Corpus Christi Caller-Times was recognized with
67 four staff awards at the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors
78 convention held in Houston on March 25 and 26, 2017; and
89 WHEREAS, Every year, TAPME and the Headliners Foundation of
910 Texas join together to recognize outstanding journalism from the
1011 Lone Star State's daily newspapers; the Caller-Times competed in
1112 the Class AAA category, for newspapers with a Sunday circulation
1213 ranging from 30,000 to nearly 125,000; and
1314 WHEREAS, For the second consecutive year, the Caller-Times
1415 was honored as Newspaper of the Year in its division, with judges
1516 citing the publication's dedication to providing useful
1617 information to its readers; the staff took first place in the
1718 Community Service category for a series examining the effects of
1819 domestic violence, as well as in the Team Effort category for its
1920 work covering voter turnout; in addition, the paper's thorough
2021 reporting on the city's tap water boil notice earned it top honors
2122 for Star Breaking News Report of the Year; along with these notable
2223 achievements, individual staff members were recognized at the
2324 event, and the newspaper received a total of 24 awards; and
2425 WHEREAS, Newspapers serve as a vital resource for a
2526 well-informed citizenry, and through their important work, the
2627 talented journalists of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times are making
2728 an invaluable contribution to their community; now, therefore, be
2829 it
2930 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3031 Legislature hereby congratulate the Corpus Christi Caller-Times on
3132 winning numerous awards at the Texas Associated Press Managing
3233 Editors convention and extend to the paper and its staff sincere
3334 best wishes for the future; and, be it further
3435 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3536 prepared for the publication as an expression of high regard by the
3637 Texas House of Representatives.
