12 | 12 | | he graduated from the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo school district and |

13 | 13 | | continued his education at The University of Texas at Austin, where |

14 | 14 | | he earned a bachelor's degree in pharmacy; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez went on to enjoy a successful career as |

16 | 16 | | a self-employed pharmacist in McAllen at Professional Pharmacy and |
---|
17 | 17 | | Roy's Pharmacy; after three decades in that field, he retired to |
---|
18 | 18 | | focus on running his ranch in Starr County; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Martinez served as |
---|
20 | 20 | | chair of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Foundation and as |
---|
21 | 21 | | a director of the Texas State Bank in McAllen, and he was appointed |
---|
22 | 22 | | by Governor Ann Richards to the Texas State Board of Public |
---|
23 | 23 | | Accountancy; among the many other organizations that benefited from |
---|
24 | 24 | | his involvement were the Jefferson Savings and Loan Association, |
---|
25 | 25 | | the McAllen Health Facilities Development Corporation, the McAllen |
---|
26 | 26 | | Housing Authority, and the City Library Board; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez shared more than six decades of |
---|
28 | 28 | | marriage with his beloved wife, Aida, and he took great pride in his |
---|
29 | 29 | | five children, Jose, Laura, Victoria, Melissa, and Tina; with the |
---|
30 | 30 | | passing years, he was further blessed with 10 grandchildren, |
---|
31 | 31 | | Victoria, Virginia, Jose, Michael, Erin, Elise, Audrey, Isabella, |
---|
32 | 32 | | Daniel, and Caroline; he was a valued congregant of his church, and |
---|
33 | 33 | | in his spare time, he enjoyed travel, golf, and football; and |

34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Although Roy Martinez will be deeply missed, |

35 | 35 | | cherished memories of time spent in his company will long endure in |
---|
36 | 36 | | the hearts of his family and friends; now, therefore, be it |

37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Roy Martinez and |
