| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, America's military veterans hold a revered place in |

| 7 | 8 | | Veterans Day 2018, residents of Grand Prairie are gathering to pay |

| 8 | 9 | | heartfelt tribute to these brave men and women; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed |

| 10 | 11 | | November 11 as Armistice Day to commemorate the anniversary of the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | end of World War I and to recognize the heroism of those who died in |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | service to their country during that terrible conflict; the date |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | was eventually made a legal holiday, and in 1954, it was renamed |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Veterans Day to honor all who have performed military service in our |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | nation's behalf, whether as a member of the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine |

| 16 | 17 | | Corps, Air Force, or Coast Guard; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Service in the armed forces demands much of the men |

| 18 | 19 | | and women who undertake it, and the burdens assumed can be great; |

| 19 | 20 | | hundreds of thousands of these valiant patriots have made the |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | ultimate sacrifice in response to their nation's call, and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | countless others have sustained injuries, both visible and unseen, |

| 22 | 23 | | that are carried with them for a lifetime; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, We owe a profound debt of gratitude to those who have |

| 24 | 25 | | committed themselves to the defense of our freedom, and Veterans |

| 25 | 26 | | Day offers a fitting occasion to acknowledge and pay tribute to the |

| 26 | 27 | | steadfast courage and dedication of the men and women who have |

| 27 | 28 | | served in our nation's armed forces; now, therefore, be it |

| 28 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
