| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Proud members of the Texas State Federation of |

| 6 | 7 | | Garden Clubs are gathering for their 60th annual state convention |

| 7 | 8 | | on April 21, 2017, in Dallas; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The organization's roots can be traced back to |

| 9 | 10 | | October 1957, when representatives from garden clubs throughout the |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | state met to establish the State Federation of Garden Clubs, |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Incorporated; the following year, the first regular meeting |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | convened at St. John Baptist Church in Dallas; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, With a mission to encourage civic beautification by |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | fostering a love of flowers and plants, the federation seeks to |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | provide education about the art and science of cultivating plants |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | and to aid in the protection and conservation of natural resources; |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | members of the group's local clubs in Dallas, Houston, Denton, |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Tyler, and Bryan accomplish these goals by facilitating hands-on |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | learning experiences and by training youth garden clubs; |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | furthermore, in 2002, the organization established the Frankie |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | Huckaby Scholarship to promote studies in horticulture, |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | floriculture, landscape architecture, and other related fields; |

| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, For six decades, the Texas State Federation of |

| 25 | 26 | | Garden Clubs has promoted a love of gardening across the Lone Star |

| 26 | 27 | | State, and its members are indeed worthy of recognition for their |

| 27 | 28 | | contributions to preserving and enhancing the beauty of our |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | landscapes; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 60th annual state convention of |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | the Texas State Federation of Garden Clubs and extend to all those |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | associated with the organization sincere best wishes for a |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | successful and memorable event; and, be it further |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
