| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Learning Ally is a nonprofit organization that |

| 11 | 12 | | disabilities, including dyslexia, blindness, and visual |

| 12 | 13 | | impairment; established in 2014, the Great Reading Games contest is |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | designed to motivate these students to spend more time reading and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | to engage with texts above their grade level; during this year's |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | competition, which ran from January 9 to February 28, participants |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | read more than five million pages total; and |

| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Lufkin Middle School went up against more than 1,200 |

| 18 | 19 | | schools across the country to capture ninth place in the 2017 Great |

| 19 | 20 | | Reading Games, with all of the sixth, seventh, and eighth graders |

| 20 | 21 | | involved in the school's Learning Ally program taking part in the |

| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, By placing among the top 10 in the Great Reading |

| 23 | 24 | | Games, these outstanding young Texans have brought credit to their |

| 24 | 25 | | school, and they may take justifiable pride in the considerable |

| 25 | 26 | | skill and perseverance they have demonstrated; now, therefore, be |

| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 28 | 29 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Lufkin Middle School on placing |

| 30 | 31 | | all those who participated in the competition sincere best wishes |
