H.R. No. 1423 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Prosper High School baseball coach Rick Carpenter reached a notable milestone when he recorded his 800th win on March 11, 2017; and WHEREAS, The memorable victory came in front of a home crowd in a matchup against Coppell High School; the Eagles triumphed by a score of 4-3 to lift Coach Carpenter to a new plateau of success; and WHEREAS, An alumnus of Georgetown College, where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in education, Mr. Carpenter began his coaching career at High Island High School and went on to work at La Marque and Sugar Land Dulles High Schools; he became head baseball coach at Elkins High School in Missouri City in the early 1990s and led the Knights to three state championships during his 15-year tenure; since taking the helm at Prosper High in 2007, he has guided his teams to numerous playoff appearances, and in 2015 the Eagles won the 5A state crown; and WHEREAS, Widely respected by his peers, Coach Carpenter was selected as the 2014 National Baseball Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations Coaches Association; in all his endeavors, he is supported by the love and encouragement of his wife, Tammie, and their three children, Matt, Tyler, and Caitlyn; and WHEREAS, Over the course of three and a half decades in the coaching profession, Rick Carpenter has made a positive difference in the lives of countless young Texans, and he is truly deserving of special recognition for the remarkable accomplishment of winning 800 games; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Rick Carpenter on his 800th career win and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Carpenter as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
