45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Members of First Methodist Church of Chillicothe
67 gathered on May 21, 2016, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the
78 construction of their church; and
89 WHEREAS, Organized in 1886 in the Jackson Springs community,
910 the congregation was served in its early days by circuit riders
1011 C. T. Neese and J. T. Hosmer; the church was relocated to
1112 Chillicothe not long after the Fort Worth and Denver City Railway
1213 reached the town in the following year; eventually, the
1314 congregation found a new site, and prominent architect Rockwell
1415 Henry Stuckey was hired to design a building, which was completed in
1516 1916; and
1617 WHEREAS, The church's classical elements include a cornice,
1718 columns, and eaves, and it also features an octagonal dome and
1819 stained glass windows that were crafted in Germany; in 1998, the
1920 building was designated as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark by
2021 the Texas Historical Commission; and
2122 WHEREAS, Countless area residents have looked to the First
2223 Methodist Church of Chillicothe for spiritual guidance for over a
2324 century, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring the church and the
2425 rich history of its venerable house of worship; now, therefore, be
2526 it
2627 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2728 Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First
2829 Methodist Church of Chillicothe building and extend to the members
2930 of the congregation sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
3031 further
3132 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3233 prepared for the congregation as an expression of high regard by the
3334 Texas House of Representatives.
