5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Members of First Methodist Church of Chillicothe |

6 | 7 | | gathered on May 21, 2016, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Organized in 1886 in the Jackson Springs community, |

9 | 10 | | the congregation was served in its early days by circuit riders |

10 | 11 | | C. T. Neese and J. T. Hosmer; the church was relocated to |
---|
11 | 12 | | Chillicothe not long after the Fort Worth and Denver City Railway |
---|
12 | 13 | | reached the town in the following year; eventually, the |
---|
13 | 14 | | congregation found a new site, and prominent architect Rockwell |
---|
14 | 15 | | Henry Stuckey was hired to design a building, which was completed in |
---|
15 | 16 | | 1916; and |

16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The church's classical elements include a cornice, |

17 | 18 | | columns, and eaves, and it also features an octagonal dome and |

18 | 19 | | stained glass windows that were crafted in Germany; in 1998, the |

19 | 20 | | building was designated as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark by |

20 | 21 | | the Texas Historical Commission; and |

21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Countless area residents have looked to the First |

22 | 23 | | Methodist Church of Chillicothe for spiritual guidance for over a |

23 | 24 | | century, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring the church and the |

24 | 25 | | rich history of its venerable house of worship; now, therefore, be |

26 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

27 | 28 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First |
