| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The members of First Baptist Church Aspermont |

| 6 | 7 | | celebrated the 125th anniversary of their church's founding on |

| 7 | 8 | | October 30, 2016; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Organized in the autumn of 1891, FBC Aspermont was |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | initially served by traveling preachers known as circuit riders |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | before securing its first pastors, the Reverend J. J. Horn and the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Reverend E. B. Featherston; for over a decade, the Aspermont |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Baptist congregation gathered to worship in either the town's |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | one-room schoolhouse or the nearby Presbyterian church, but |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | following a dramatic increase in membership, the church constructed |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | a sanctuary in the early 1900s; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Through the decades, FBC Aspermont has benefited |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | from the skilled leadership of numerous dedicated members of the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | clergy; the church's 2016 anniversary celebration was overseen by |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Dr. Larry Baker in his role as interim pastor, and today the |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | congregation is ably guided by Pastor Brant Small; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Now located on North Broadway Street, FBC Aspermont |

| 22 | 23 | | administers a variety of commendable programs that foster |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | fellowship and help those in need, including all-ages Sunday school |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | classes, the Woman's Missionary Union, and Teen Mops, a ministry |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | for teenage parents and their families; the church also supports |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | the Eunice Chambless Hospitality House, the Stonewall County Food |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Pantry, Crossing Borders, and Operation Christmas Child; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Countless local residents have looked to First |

| 29 | 30 | | Baptist Church Aspermont for spiritual guidance over the past 125 |

| 30 | 31 | | years, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring the church at this |

| 31 | 32 | | special time in its rich history; now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 125th anniversary of the |

| 34 | 35 | | founding of First Baptist Church Aspermont and extend to all those |
