 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Alvin M. Fuhrman celebrated his 90th birthday on
 February 3, 2017, and this occasion provides a fitting opportunity
 to celebrate his long and extraordinary career in the
 telecommunications industry; and
 WHEREAS, Born to Henry and Elizabeth Fuhrman in 1927, Alvin
 Fuhrman was working as an electrician in Muenster in 1949 when an
 ice storm brought down all the local telephone lines; after the
 telephone company's repairman left town, Mr. Fuhrman and his
 brother, Bill, were recruited to restore service to the community;
 Alvin Fuhrman decided to remain with the company and so began a
 remarkable career that lasted half a century; and
 WHEREAS, Following his two years of service with the U.S.
 Army, Mr. Fuhrman returned to the Muenster Telephone Company in
 1953 as its sole installer and repairman, and he set to work
 modernizing its technology and expanding its service area; he
 purchased the company in 1957, and over the decades, he grew the
 business into a state-of-the-art telecommunications service
 provider, guiding the enterprise as president and general manager;
 now known as Nortex Communications, the company currently offers an
 array of services that include high-definition television and
 high-speed Internet to communities across North Texas; and
 WHEREAS, A recognized leader in the industry, Mr. Fuhrman
 served on the board of the Texas Telephone Association for 23 years,
 earning its Neville Haynes Award in 1999; he is a lifelong member of
 the VFW and the Knights of Columbus and a valued congregant at
 Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he has sung in the choir for
 more than five decades; in all his endeavors, he has enjoyed the
 love and support of his wife of 61 years, Gracie; and
 WHEREAS, Through his dedication, expertise, and dynamic
 entrepreneurship, Alvin Fuhrman has greatly benefited the people of
 North Texas, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his many
 achievements; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Alvin M. Fuhrman on his 90th
 birthday and commend him for his many contributions to the
 telecommunications industry; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Fuhrman as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
