7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Situated on the rich blackland soils of southeastern |

8 | 9 | | Williamson County, the Hutto area was settled in 1855 by James E. |

9 | 10 | | Hutto, a Swedish pioneer, and Adam Orgain, a freed slave; the town, |
---|
10 | 11 | | which was founded in 1876 around a depot of the International-Great |

11 | 12 | | Northern Railroad, soon became a center for cotton farming, and it |
---|
12 | 13 | | was incorporated in 1911; and |
---|
13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, More than a century later, Hutto benefits from its |

14 | 15 | | location at the intersection of two major highways, US 79 and SH |
---|
15 | 16 | | 130, and its proximity to the NAFTA corridor along I-35; the city's |

16 | 17 | | population has soared from 1,450 in 2000 to an estimated 23,000 |

27 | 28 | | named the Region 13 Honor Board by the Texas Association of School |

41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

42 | 43 | | Legislature hereby recognize May 9, 2017, as Hutto Day at the State |
