| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of |

| 6 | 7 | | Dr. Valerie Kim Wright of Waco, who passed away on April 7, 2017, at |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Grant and Venita Brown, the former |

| 9 | 10 | | Valerie Brown was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on December 10, |

| 10 | 11 | | 1943; she completed her bachelor's degree and her master's degree in |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | anatomy at the University of Utah, and after graduating from |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Women's College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | became the first female resident in plastic surgery at Baylor |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | College of Medicine; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, She married a fellow surgeon, Dr. Robert M. Wright |

| 16 | 17 | | Jr., on May 7, 1977, and during the final year of her general |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | residency, she gave birth to their daughter, A. J.; she and her |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | husband established a plastic and reconstructive surgery practice |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | together in 1984, and the following year, they performed one of the |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | first hand replantations in Central Texas; the couple also became |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | the parents of a second child, Randy; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of 34 years in medicine, Dr. Wright |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | established a reputation as a leader in her field and touched the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | lives of countless people; in her free time, she pursued a wide |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | variety of interests, among them reading, bead making, knitting, |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | and playing guitar and piano, and she was a true animal lover; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Valerie Wright lived a rich and purposeful life |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | centered around her work and her family, and she will long be |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | remembered with deep admiration and affection by all who knew her; |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 32 | 33 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. Valerie Kim |
