| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Diane |

| 6 | 7 | | DeVooght Key of Austin, who passed away on February 26, 2017, at the |

| 7 | 8 | | age of 66; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Paul and Verena DeVooght, the former |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Diane DeVooght was born on March 23, 1950, in Marquette, Michigan, |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | and grew up with her sister, Ann, and her brother, Duane; when she |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | was three years old, she moved with her family to Austin; she |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | attended St. Mary's Academy and went on to earn a bachelor's degree |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | in education from Texas State University-San Marcos in 1978; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, On July 16, 1977, she was joined in matrimony to John |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Key at the Cathedral of St. Mary in Austin; during a rewarding |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | marriage that spanned nearly four decades, the couple became the |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | proud parents of a daughter, Colleen, and with the passing years, |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | they had the pleasure of welcoming into their family four |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | grandchildren, Joseph, Patrick, Daniel, and Rita; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Active in her community, Ms. Key served as a troop |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | leader for Girl Scout Troop No. 317 and as a volunteer at Barrington |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Elementary School, a role that eventually led to her employment as a |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | teacher's aide in charge of the school's computer lab; she was also |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | active in the pro-life movement, giving generously of her time and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | energies to the Texas Alliance for Life and other such groups; |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | moreover, she was an avid gardener and a member of the Austin |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Daylily Society, and she participated in the Capital 10K race every |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | year; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Admired for her strength of character, her kind and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | generous nature, and her quick wit, Diane Key led a life that was |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | rich in the intangibles that matter most, and she holds a treasured |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | place in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her; |

| 33 | 34 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Diane DeVooght Key |

| 36 | 37 | | and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family and her |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | many friends; and, be it further |

| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
