45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Diane
67 DeVooght Key of Austin, who passed away on February 26, 2017, at the
78 age of 66; and
89 WHEREAS, The daughter of Paul and Verena DeVooght, the former
910 Diane DeVooght was born on March 23, 1950, in Marquette, Michigan,
1011 and grew up with her sister, Ann, and her brother, Duane; when she
1112 was three years old, she moved with her family to Austin; she
1213 attended St. Mary's Academy and went on to earn a bachelor's degree
1314 in education from Texas State University-San Marcos in 1978; and
1415 WHEREAS, On July 16, 1977, she was joined in matrimony to John
1516 Key at the Cathedral of St. Mary in Austin; during a rewarding
1617 marriage that spanned nearly four decades, the couple became the
1718 proud parents of a daughter, Colleen, and with the passing years,
1819 they had the pleasure of welcoming into their family four
1920 grandchildren, Joseph, Patrick, Daniel, and Rita; and
2021 WHEREAS, Active in her community, Ms. Key served as a troop
2122 leader for Girl Scout Troop No. 317 and as a volunteer at Barrington
2223 Elementary School, a role that eventually led to her employment as a
2324 teacher's aide in charge of the school's computer lab; she was also
2425 active in the pro-life movement, giving generously of her time and
2526 energies to the Texas Alliance for Life and other such groups;
2627 moreover, she was an avid gardener and a member of the Austin
2728 Daylily Society, and she participated in the Capital 10K race every
2829 year; and
2930 WHEREAS, Admired for her strength of character, her kind and
3031 generous nature, and her quick wit, Diane Key led a life that was
3132 rich in the intangibles that matter most, and she holds a treasured
3233 place in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her;
3334 now, therefore, be it
3435 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3536 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Diane DeVooght Key
3637 and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family and her
3738 many friends; and, be it further
3839 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3940 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4041 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Diane Key.
