| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, For 20 years, the Department of Public Safety Mentor |

| 6 | 7 | | Program at Reilly Elementary School in Austin has been making a |

| 7 | 8 | | positive difference in the lives of young Texans; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Pioneered during the 1997-1998 school year, this |

| 9 | 10 | | inspiring program pairs students at Reilly Elementary with DPS |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | employees, who eat lunch and spend time with the children on a |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | weekly basis; during its first year, 10 DPS employees participated |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | in the initiative, and today more than 100 mentors volunteer their |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | time; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In addition to serving as role models, these caring |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | men and women also host an annual year-end party for the students |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | and organize fund-raising events to support field trips and provide |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | school supplies, winter coats, and holiday gifts for those in need; |

| 18 | 19 | | in recognition of its notable efforts, the program was awarded the |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | 2014 Business Partner of the Year honor by Austin Partners in |

| 20 | 21 | | Education; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The participants of the DPS Mentor Program at Reilly |

| 22 | 23 | | Elementary have demonstrated a strong commitment to improving the |

| 23 | 24 | | quality of life in their community, and their willingness to give of |

| 24 | 25 | | their time and talents sets an outstanding example of civic |

| 25 | 26 | | engagement; now, therefore, be it |

| 26 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 27 | 28 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 20th anniversary of the |
