| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Student Financial Aid |

| 6 | 7 | | Administrators is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2017; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, TASFAA was founded in 1967 to advance a profession |

| 8 | 9 | | dedicated to providing students with the resources and information |

| 9 | 10 | | necessary to access higher education opportunities; membership has |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | grown to more than 2,000 Texans and also includes individuals in |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | several other states; and |

| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Among the initiatives TASFAA has created to increase |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | awareness of student financial aid options and financing programs |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | are Financial Aid Awareness Week, the Middle School Project, and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | high school counselor training activities; in addition, the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | association assists in completing the Free Application for Federal |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Student Aid; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, TASFAA has also coordinated with |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | other entities committed to helping students pursue their dreams; |

| 20 | 21 | | in the late 1990s, it worked with Representative Henry Cuellar and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | with other groups to establish the Toward Excellence, Access, and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Success Grant Program, or TEXAS, the first statewide, need-based |

| 23 | 24 | | grant program for students attending Texas public postsecondary |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | institutions; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The organization engages in advocacy at the state |

| 26 | 27 | | and federal levels, proposing refinements to current aid programs |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | and suggesting other measures to improve the affordability of |

| 28 | 29 | | postsecondary education; moreover, it promotes administrative |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | efficiency, program integrity and quality, and the simplification |

| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Through its efforts to make postsecondary education |
