45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Deborah S. Gernes of Georgetown is retiring as
67 general manager of Travis County Water Control and Improvement
78 District No. 17 on May 3, 2017, concluding more than two decades of
89 exemplary service; and
910 WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of Massachusetts
1011 Amherst with a bachelor's degree in biology, Ms. Gernes also holds
1112 a master's degree in information systems from the Naval
1213 Postgraduate School; following her 20-year career as a surface
1314 warfare officer in the United States Navy, she joined the staff of
1415 Travis County WCID in February 1996; and
1516 WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Ms. Gernes, the
1617 district has experienced dramatic growth, from 1,800 to 11,500
1718 accounts with assets totaling some $220 million, all while
1819 garnering recognition for its financial and operational
1920 efficiencies and conservation efforts; she has successfully
2021 overseen such capital projects as water plant upgrades, tank and
2122 pump station installations, and wastewater improvements, and she
2223 has spearheaded a number of programs that help supply clean water to
2324 underserved areas, including the Apache Shores, River Ridge, and
2425 Montview neighborhoods; moreover, she was instrumental in the
2526 establishment of the Lake Travis Regional Reuse and Recycling
2627 Center in 2015; and
2728 WHEREAS, Through her dedication, professionalism, and
2829 commitment to excellence, Deborah Gernes has greatly benefited the
2930 citizens of Travis County, and she may indeed reflect with pride on
3031 her exceptional record of achievement as she embarks on the next
3132 exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3334 Legislature hereby congratulate Deborah S. Gernes on her retirement
3435 from Travis County Water Control and Improvement District No. 17
3536 and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be
3637 it further
3738 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3839 prepared for Ms. Gernes as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3940 House of Representatives.
